Let’s know about
MERDEKA 118 & VICINITY
Menara Merdeka 118
Petaling Hill, located beside downtown KL was once a looming forested promontory that was once a Cantonese cemetery, then became Coronation Park during the British times, which also encompassed a golf course. The first major building built there was the Chin Woo Stadium in 1953. When the Merdeka Stadium was built to celebrate the country’s independence in 1957, the hill formed part of the national psyche. Stadium Negara appeared in the 1960s. When Merdeka 118 was opened in January 2024 as the world’s second tallest building, it literally crowned the historical layers of the hill.
Menara Merdeka 118 completed in 2023, is a megatall skyscraper located on Jalan Hang Jebat in Kuala Lumpur. At 678.9 m tall, it ranks as the second-tallest building in the world and tallest in Southeast asia.
It has a multi-faceted diamond shaped façade and unique spire design. Its form was inspired by the outstretched hand gesture made by Malaysia’s first Prime Minister in 1957, when he declared the nation's independence in Stadium Merdeka, which is part of the Merdeka 118 precinct. Arup, as the civil and structural engineer of record, is working with the local firm, RSP Architects jointly with Fender Katsalidis.
