Ar. William Khoo Boo Chuan
William Khoo Boo Chuan is a PAM corporate member and founding director of Sarawakian design firm, Design Network Architects (DNA) based in Kuching, East Malaysia in the island of Borneo. Originally a Penangite by birth, he currently resides in Sarawak and operates out of his Kuching studio. William grew up in the charming island state of Penang with its rich architectural heritage where he developed a deep interest in the Arts and a passion for drawing at a young age. He pursued his architectural education in Sydney, Australia at the University of New South Wales and graduated with a Bachelor of Architectural Degree (1987) and subsequently a Master of Architectural Studies in (1989) with honors. Upon graduation, he decided to take up a brief working stint away from his hometown, Penang and settled upon Sarawak as his first stop. He never left. In the year 2000, together with 3 other partners, they founded the firm DNA with the aim to be a research and design based practice, focusing mainly on small fit-outs and residential work in the early formative years. The firm has grown since then and has built extensively through-out Sarawak. The scope of their work has also varied to cover all typologies and scale, but has remained design focused in relevance to the Sarawakian contextual narrative. DNA consistently incorporates elements of nature into their architectural language. That notion of the tropical is especially evident in their residential works. Over the years, DNA has been privilege to win the recognition of many of their peers in the industry in the form of PAM Awards and their works has been featured in local architectural journals. William is an active contributing member of the Sarawak online platform, Borneo Art Collective (BAC) together with its founder Wendy Teoh, in promoting Borneo Arts + Design.
