About The Speaker

Kevin Flanagan

Kevin is an architect with more than 30 years’ experience in the industry. He has a reputation for crafting award-winning designs throughout major world cities. These resolve both contextual and environmental concerns in a singular bold concept, a true response to the nature of place. He is currently working on a number of high-rise projects, including towers in the Netherlands, Hong Kong and China. He has been instrumental with our ongoing research work with the University of Cambridge on the use of timber structure in tall buildings. The related feasibility proposals imagine the future development of laminated timber towers in the world, adding for instance an 80-storey, 300-metre tower and additional levels of housing to the iconic Barbican complex in the City. While at KPF prior to PLP’s founding, he worked on Provinciehuis (the Provincial Parliament Building) and the De Hoftoren Tower – both in The Hague, Netherlands, and the landmark Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) Headquarters building in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Kevin holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Architectural Association in London and Carleton University in Canada, and a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas, which was completed with a Scholarship in Rome. He is a past President and longstanding director of the American Institute of Architects’ AIA/UK Chapter and has served as an international architectural editor. His work has been chosen to be exhibited in the Royal Academy of Art’s Summer Exhibition four separate times and his recent design for the museum and theatre of Perm was shown in a high-profile exhibition in Russia. Among his projects, Trinity Place in Russia was selected as the Best Office building in the country, while The Edge in Amsterdam won an AIA Europe Award, BREEAM Awards for Best Office and the Most Sustainable Building in the World, and the ULI Global Best of the Best Award.
