Open Work 6: Rumah Lukis by Ar. Mohamad Pital Maarof

The sixth ‘Open Work’ event provided an exclusive visit to Rumah Lukis, a renowned studio of Ar. Mohamad Pital Maarof.
The ‘Open Work’ program is an initiative to bridge the gap between architectural community, designers and students. It offers an unparalleled opportunity to understand the role of architects in the community through a visit to their work environment. The event took place on Friday, July 21, 2023, at RUMAH LUKIS – a house converted into an independent art space located in Hulu Kelang by Ar. Mohamad Pital Maarof. They highlight and bring to the forefront the process of growing, making art and creating.
The afternoon kicked off at 3:30 pm,with an introduction to KLAF, photo session, studio briefing and tour – providing an intimate look at the creative process behind the artwork in collaboration with Balai Bikin. Balai Bikin @Rumah Lukis tells three stories about making. First it probes into materials, concepts and collaborative process behind four tikar works or series in Borneo Heart – tikar reben, &, The Tukad Kad Sequence and TIKAR/MEJA. Looking forward, it follows the progress of “Balai Bikin” a project by the weavers of the Pulau Omadal community and Yee I-Lann, working with Arkitrek Camp, to create a community and making hall in their village, giving insights into it’s deals, processes challenges faced and hopefully its successful implementation later this year.
The event concluded at 6:00 pm with networking session and refreshments and we hope to continue the mission to foster understanding and appreciation for architecture and bring together various parties (ie; practitioners, users, students) regarding Architects’ role in the community.
