Are we three degrees from extinction?

Climate is indeed everything. As we start taking tentative steps to come out of the Covid-19 pandemic, a larger and more ominous threat is right before us on the horizon.

In 2009, PAM-ACEM launched Malaysia’s Green Building Index. KLAF LIVE is pleased to have Ar Boon Che Wee to share his thoughts and ideas on Greening Malaysia and how architects and designers need to play a lead role to continue driving the changes necessary to overcome climate calamity.

Red Hong Yi whose work featured on the front cover of Time Magazine’s Climate is Everything will share her latest explorations in Art with her team of young architectural artists comprising Annice Lyn, Leong Chee Chung and Wong Kai Yi.

This will be a hybrid live and on-line event. A pilot project to plot the path back to the new normal.

About The Speaker

He is a Professional Architect based in Kuala Lumpur. He has served on the Board of Architects and Board of Town Planners Malaysia, and as President of Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM). During his PAM presidency, he has curated the inaugural Malaysia Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and was the Founding Director of Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival. Boon was the Chair of Green Building Index Accreditation Panel, and continues to serve on the Panel.

Red Hong Yi is a Chinese-Malaysian contemporary artist who makes work expressing her heritage and Chinese diasporic consciousness. Known as “the artist who paints without a paintbrush”, she creates mixed media installations by reinterpreting everyday materials through the accumulation of objects. By combining traditional craftsmanship and digital technology, she creates work that consider perceptual habits and preconceptions on the chosen objects and subjects, expressing the themes of women and race. Annice Lyn is a photojournalist, who visually documents stories that resonate with topics of critical importance. As a former national figure skater, her transition into documentary sports photography led her to become the first and only Malaysian female photographer whose work was accredited for the XXIII Olympic Winter Games, PyeongChang 2018, and Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics She was architecturally trained and is currently the creative director for Anntopia Studio. Among her many credentials, she’s a Canon Malaysia EOS Youth Ambassador, a laureate for Southeast Asia Women of the Future Award 2020, and a co-founder of Women Photographers Malaysia with the means to develop an inclusive culture through visual storytelling. Wong Kai Yi (Kaiyi) is a designer and digital artist who explores design possibilities in both reality and the virtual realm. Based in Malaysia, Kaiyi started his own design studio ‘Unreality’, focusing on architectural design, digital art and product design. His work aims to challenge the architecture paradigm and blur the boundary between art and architecture – and between virtual and reality. Kaiyi obtained his Masters of Architecture (RIBA Part 2/LAM Part 2) from the University of Sheffield (UK) in 2020. Chee Chung studied Master of Arts (M.A.) Architecture in Hochschule Anhalt, Germany. His thesis explores the realm of architectural abstract spaces and digital graphics in rethinking the mental barrier in a multiracial society. After graduating, he practiced architecture in Berlin, creating interactive and playful spaces. Furthermore, in fuelling his passion towards self-crafted shelters and interactive spaces, he started “Cabin Seed” as a venture into crafting cabin spaces, experimental furniture and installations. He is currently working in Studio Red Hong Yi as a designer and has since been responsible for managing and co-producing the artist’s artwork.
