21st June – 7th July 2019
Add to Calendar 21-06-2019 12:00 AM 07-07-2019 12:00 AM Kuala Lumpur Heritage For Tomorrow The exhibition is a collection of students’ research and measured drawings of the lesser known architecturally or historically significant buildings especially those located in smaller towns throughout Malaysia. These buildings possess the qualities that meet the criteria for the buildings to be listed in the National Heritage Register, but have not yet been nominated into the National Heritage Register.

The objective of the exhibition is to bring to the public awareness the richness and diverse architecture traditions in Malaysia, especially to the younger generations so that they can be proud of our culture and architecture heritage.

There are 20 buildings featured in the exhibition. Many of these buildings are located in smaller towns in the Peninsular Malaysia, which is partly the reasons why these buildings are obscure from the knowledge of most people. Some of the students work in the exhibition are works done by polytechnic students, as part of their Diploma in Architecture studies. Since most of the polytechnics are located in smaller towns, the students with their lecturers have identified many architecturally significant buildings in the smaller town as their measured drawing subject. Some of the buildings belong to the government and some of the buildings belong to private owners. Most of the buildings are functional and in good condition, but continuous effort must be taken to properly maintain these buildings as some buildings have shown signs of neglect and deterioration.

It is our hope that this exhibition will bring the attention of the relevant government ministry and departments of the existence of these buildings and that they will take the necessary steps to list these buildings under the National Heritage Register.

Many thanks to the institutions that have submitted their students’ works for the exhibition:

1. International Islamic University.
2. Taylor’s University.
3. University Malaya.
4. University Tunku Abdul Rahman
5. Polytechnic Sultan Idris Shah Sabak Bernam.
6. Polytechnic Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’azam Shah Jitra.
7. Polytechnic Ungku Omar Ipoh
