BUILT ENVIRONMENT: AN ALTERNATIVE GUIDE TO JAPAN
This travelling exhibition titled “Built Environment” sets out to showcase a collection of 80 buildings, civil-engineering projects and landscapes through photographs, texts and videos that extends from the modern era of the late 19th century to the present time, taken from the prefectures of Japan and also evaluating them as products from a dialogue between historical and spatial context in an effort to comprehend and provide a deeper understanding of Japanese history, environment and culture from a perspective of built environments. Being an archipelago that stretches from north to south, regions in Japan have a full complement of seasonal changes and distinguished by its highly diverse geography. Japan is also considered as one of the countries to be often struck by natural disasters — earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, typhoons and tsunami, and the buildings built must be able to withstand such occurrences
